Hi, I'm wanting to use this Wheel of Fortune game for a presentation I am giving. I am wanting to have more than one round, so I was wondering how I would be able to do that. I think you did an awesome job on this! I just want to be able to use it over and over again for several rounds. :) Thanks!
I am setting up a Christmas gameshow night for our church and found this game! This is by far the best Wheel of Fortune template I've found! Thank you so much for all your hard work on this and for making it free to the rest of us! Keep up the great work!!
I imagine you are WAY over a thousand downloads now! :)
Wow, this means a lot to me! I'm glad you used this for your Christmas gameshow night. And you are correct, I do have over a thousand downloads now, 5000+ to be exact. Wow!
By the way, I am preparing a massive update to this template, so if you thought this was the best template you've found, think again. I'm hoping to upload it tomorrow with release notes. Stay tuned!
Hi Cory. I'm glad you enjoyed this project! The current version posted IS the massive update I was working on. It was supposed to be released in 2012, but I procrastinated until this year to complete it. You can read more about my jubilation here:
Hi Alice. I can't remove the $ signs from the wheel since I didn't create the wheel image. However, you CAN remove the $ signs from the scoreboard. If you're using v2.0 or newer, the $ signs are in separate text boxes that can easily be removed using PowerPoint's edit view.
Keep in mind that this Wheel of Fortune template was designed strictly for the U.S. version. Even without the $ signs, the numbers might feel out of place as the British pound's value differs from the U.S. dollar.
Tim, this is pretty awesome. My mom is turnig 60 and LOVES Wheel of Fortune. We are planning her a Wheel party and her final puzzle prize will be her birthday present! Thanks so much for this!
Gosh I would love to use this, but I don't see a way to edit the white squares to create my puzzle. The whole puzzle board is just one big picture. Any hints?
Hi Anne. I assume you found out that clicking the top of each tile makes them white and that you enabled Active Controls, right?
The way this template works is that you have to have the solution to the puzzle somewhere in your head or written down on a solution card. You set up the puzzle board by lighting up the necessary tiles, and during the game, you fill in these tiles with the letters.
There currently isn't a way to pre-program the puzzle board with puzzles. That would take some insane VBA skills to pull off.
Awesome! I see you've made some progress with VBA! There are some code optimisations you could make though - try exploring array variables and iteration structures. But great effort so far!
Hello, I'm trying to set this up for a work training, and for whatever reason, when I click the tile, it does not turn white, it just turns into a white outline. What am I doing wrong? Thanks! :)
Hello, I'm not near my computer at the moment, but I'll do my best to help you.
- What version of PowerPoint are you using? Do you have active controls enabled? - Are you clicking on the top of the tile? The cursor should change to two arrows pointing out. - If you can send a screenshot of the tile changing to a white outline, that'd be great. Perhaps you can use imgur or some other image site.
Thank you very much for sharing this. I just bought one like yours last week and it's not even as good as yours. Keep up the good works. Also, is it possible to add sounds to the wheel and the wrong and correct answer sounds. I downloaded some game sounds and can send it to you. Finally, I'm in Japan and my students are low level students, do you think it can be possible to make the wheel with lesser amounts, say $50,$100 and $200? Cheers.
Hello! This is very brilliant. I'm trying to use this game for our school presentation however I can't use the wheel properly. Every time I click it to stop, it just keeps spinning. I wish you could help me with this. Thank you very much!
Hi, I would love to use this for a group presentation the topic is on Humble Inquiry – The Gentle Art of Asking instead of Telling. How can I change the numbers on the wheel. I tried adding my own images but how do I get them to spin with it? I'm trying to change the animation on slide but still can't figure out how to get it to spin and stop with the wheel. If you can help me out that would be great. thank you for sharing.
Have you tried clicking on one of the wheels and using Change Picture in the Format ribbon tab? That way, you can directly add your own wheel images without re-animating the spins.
Trying to run with OpenOffice Impress. I know in Power Point it's compatible with macro's enabled. Is it possible to get this to work in OpenOffice by running/enabling/creating a macro? And, if it does need a macro to be created, does anyone happen to have a template so I don't have to write the whole thing, need it for a work activity.
Unfortunately, Wheel of Fortune for PowerPoint does not support LibreOffice Impress for more reasons than macros. I've actually been doing research on a separate version for LibreOffice, but I can't give any guarantees; the fact that there's a bug that causes the spin animation to not repeat isn't a good sign.
I have however started working on LibreOffice projects. My first, Bingo Master Board PLUS, was released this week and is available to download if you want to try that.
Hey, man, awesome Wheel PPT! Thank you very much! Is there any way to easily modify it so that it spins and stops by itself like the real wheel does? Also, any easy way to add sounds? Thanks a lot, man.
John, thanks for the compliments. It appears possible to add both features you mentioned, but they both require VBA edits. I'll consider sounds and a wheel that spins and stops by itself for a future release. Can't say if or when since I work on this during my spare time.
Drew, I do plan to have more updates. Sounds and 1/2 cars are in consideration. Can't say if or when they'll arrive since I work on this project during my spare time.
As for the million dollar wedge, I intentionally replaced it with the $10,000 wedge since I felt the million dollar wedge isn't relevant in a game night setting. Since the million dollar wedge would be at the same exact spot as the $10,000, you could treat that spot as the million dollars.
Can't think of any tips from this statement alone. Are you on a work computer that may block macros? If not, I have no idea since everything works fine on my computer.
I get this question a lot, yet I'm not fully sure how to ensure scripts are enabled. From what I know, it's possible your copy of Microsoft Office is blocking macros by default without asking to enable them. Try going to PowerPoint's Options -> Security Center, and check your macro settings.
Can anyone help get this to work? I have enabled all controls, and I still do not get a pointing finger for my cursor to manipulate and use the template. When I press ctrl I can get the pointing finger on some of the bottom rectangles, but nothing on the numbers for the puzzles or to enter the puzzles themselves. I really like everything I see in the demo, but so far, I can do nothing.
This is incredible, and I am definitely going to use it in my classroom. Amazing work! But....I'd like to find a way to use 5 players (teams) instead of just 3. I'm having a bit of trouble updating it to add in a couple of extra players...any tips?
hi tim, i just download this powerpoint game..how to insert sound effect when the user success guess the letter. the guess box turns blue colour.. i just wondering how to insert the sound. i need your help.
To add sounds, you'll need to use VBA. Not for the faint of heart!
1) Create a shape in slide 1. 2) Go to the Selection Pane and make note of the shape's name. 3) Select the shape and go to Action Settings. 3) Insert your sound file in the Play Sound dropdown menu. Make sure it's a WAV file. 4) In the VBA editor, locate the following code in the guessLetter subroutine:
ActivePresentation.Slides(2).Shapes("Letter" & i).TextFrame.TextRange.Text = "" ActivePresentation.Slides(2).Shapes("LetterCounter").TextFrame.TextRange.Text = letterCount & "*" ActivePresentation.Slides(2).Shapes("LetterSelectionOverlay2").Visible = False End If End If
5) Just before the two "End If"s, add the following line:
You're welcome, Ha Pham! Yes, I encourage you to share this game on your school page if you credit me. I suggest using this page as the download link because I occasionally update the file with bug fixes/new features.
If you're comfortable, I'd like to see the school page once my project is up.
Apologies for the late response. Unfortunately, Wheel of Fortune for PowerPoint doesn't work on the iPad because PowerPoint for iPad cannot run macros.
I'm surprised someone would want more than 12 puzzles, since most full Wheel of Fortune games don't need more than 9.
Anyway, due to the way I programmed the puzzle creator, it's not possible to add more than 12 puzzles in one PPT file. For now, you have three options:
1) Create a copy of the Wheel of Fortune for PowerPoint file. Once you finish the first 12 puzzles, open the next file for another 12 puzzles. (You'd need to import the player name/scores if for some reason you're playing a standalone with more than 12 puzzles.)
2) Download an older version of Wheel of Fortune for PowerPoint, located in the Archive page. Versions 3.2 and older used a different puzzle mechanism that would let you create an infinite amount of puzzles, at the expense of having to remember each letter in the puzzle.
3) *Gasp* Use rusnakcreative's Wheel of Fortune PowerPoint (which you can find online). His template works and feels different from mine, but you can add more than 12 puzzles in his version. As awkward as it is to promote a competitor's tool, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
Perhaps one day, I'll figure out a better way to let people add more than 12 puzzles...
Hi Tim, the ppt was truly a great work. It is by par the best I have seen in the internet. However It lacks the game background sound that typically set the mood of the audience abuzz. Furthermore, the wheel just suddenly stop unlike the work of the wheel of winning 2017 that mimics an actual wheel of fortune complete with sound and all. Please consider my input because this game can change the CLASSROOM on how teachers and students view gamification as a powerful tool for learning. Thank you and best of luck!
I appreciate your feedback with Wheel of Fortune for PowerPoint. Allow me to address your two points of concern.
- There's currently no music because I don't want to risk copyright issues using the official Wheel soundtrack. The workaround would be to create my own sounds, which I haven't got to yet (and I'm no expert at music production).
- The wheel used to not suddenly stop in previous versions. Unfortunately, the old wheel mechanism had issues properly landing on random wedges, so I had to rework the wheel in a way that's more random, but not as pretty.
(Note that I have researched ways to bring back an animated wheel while retaining randomness. One method I've found changes the wheel mechanism to 1 click instead of 2, but it doesn't work with PowerPoint 2007. When I drop PowerPoint 2007 support, I'll consider switching the wheel mechanism to this method. But I'm not sure if people prefer 1 click or 2 clicks.)
I cannot download the template. Every time I try I get an error message saying it has to repair the file. When I select repair file, another error message pops up saying something went wrong. Any idea what the problem could be?
Usually the repair message means there's a problem with the PowerPoint program itself. Try repairing Microsoft Office in Apps and Features. If that doesn't work, see what else you can find when you search "PowerPoint repair file" on your search engine. Sorry, can't help much further than that.
If you're concerned that the file is corrupt, I may consider releasing file hashes in the future. Let me know if that would help.
Not sure what you mean here, but here's my interpretation. Every time you solve a puzzle, you should be able to load the next puzzle by clicking on Load Puzzle on the bottom left or clicking on the puzzle board. The wheels themselves are independent of the puzzle board's functionality.
Hi Tim, Love the game and want to start using it more - can I just clarify some things to make sure I am not doing it wrong? 1. When you spin the wheel and get a value to have to remember the amount and manually calculate the score than goes in boxes right? There is no way to write in what the wheel value was? 2. The button for buying a vowel doesn't do anything - again are you supposed to manually remove the amount? 3. The arrow for transferring the score to the totals also doesn't do anything - again is this to be done manually? I have enabled macros and am using powerpoint 2007 with version 4.1.2
Hi Rick. Thanks for using Wheel of Fortune for PowerPoint!
1. The template does not track the wheel value, so you'll need to remember the amount. That said, you don't need to manually calculate the score. If you click the player's round $ sign, you can enter the money earned, which will automatically add to the round total.
I understand that it's frustrating having to remember wheel values, and I will address this in the upcoming web-based version. Right now, I have a web-based wheel demo which can detect/remember wheel values. https://wheeldemo.gamesbytim.com
2/3. Those buttons work on my end - PowerPoint 2010. It should work on 2007, but I no longer have access to that version. Does everything else work? Does the Mac version work? (Uses different code for those buttons, and should work fine on Windows with minor caveats) I apologize that I'm unable to reproduce the problem you're having.
I am having an issue where the scoreboard is duplicating over the top of the category area in the puzzle board.
I also have an issue while trying to set up puzzles where the green squares overlap each other. Is this a bug that can be fixed or something I am doing wrong on my end?
Although I cannot reproduce, this sounds like a graphical issue with ActiveX controls. Try disabling hardware graphics acceleration in PowerPoint to see if it fixes the issue.
Tim the Writer! You are a gem among App Developers! Is there a way I can remove the names and scores of the people who are playing from the middle of the puzzle board?
Sorry, just saw this! As a workaround, you can use the Mac version. The Mac version does not use any ActiveX controls that's cause the graphics problems you face.
Hello from Denmark. I really like this power point and I like to use it. But here is my problem: I need to use the Danish vowels: Æ - Ø - Å. Would it be possible to add those so they can be used to guess the words? It would help me a lot, thank you.
Unfortunately, that's not possible at this time. I have, however, put foreign language letters handling on the todo list for my upcoming web-based template. Thanks for suggesting the Danish language!
You may consider using an older version of Wheel of Fortune for PowerPoint in the meantime, since it uses a different puzzle board system that can handle foreign letters (but isn't as convenient to use). Download here: https://timtree.github.io/download/wheel-of-fortune-ppt/?ver=3.2
Where did you learned these things, though? I'm creating games on PowerPoint, but I find it too constraining if I don't explore the power of VBA (and heavy reliance on trigger buttons is... yeah)
Wow!!This is amazing! No way I could create this. I did want to say that I wish the bonus round had like a bonus wheel to see what the person would win if they solved the puzzle, similar to the the show.
Hey Tim, first of all amazing job! Thank you very much! Like some other people I have issues with the Buy a Vowel button and also the score transfer. I'm using PP 2016, I've tried over and over but I can't figure how to make them works!
I'm having trouble reproducing the buy vowel/score transfer button problem, so I need some help. - What's your exact version of PowerPoint? (Go to File -> Account -> About PowerPoint) - What version of Windows are you using? Have you installed the latest Windows updates for that version? - Are you using 32-bit or 64-bit PowerPoint? - Are hardware graphics acceleration and slide show hardware graphics acceleration enabled? (Check in PowerPoint options -> Advanced) - Are macros enabled? Are all other functions working? - What are your trust center settings for "ActiveX settings" and "Macro settings"? (Find in PowerPoint options -> Trust Center). - Do the buy vowel/score transfer buttons work if you download the Mac version instead?
I really hope I can understand why many of you guys experience this bug.

When did you start making Wheel of Fortune for PowerPoint?
ReplyDeleteWheel of Fortune for PowerPoint was first released January 1, 2012.
DeleteHow do I load puzzles when deleting the Wheel layouts for each round?
ReplyDeleteNot sure what you mean here, but here's my interpretation. Every time you solve a puzzle, you should be able to load the next puzzle by clicking on Load Puzzle on the bottom left or clicking on the puzzle board. The wheels themselves are independent of the puzzle board's functionality.

Delete1.
This is a great Wheel of Fortune template. I am excited to use it during these times when everyone is home. Thank you so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Great to hear I'm helping people deal with this quarantine.
DeleteI am having an issue where the scoreboard is duplicating over the top of the category area in the puzzle board.
ReplyDeleteI also have an issue while trying to set up puzzles where the green squares overlap each other.

ReplyDelete. . .and I just tried to disable hardware graphics in PP. No joy the names and scoreboard -a duplicate stays right in the middle of the puzzle board.
ReplyDeleteSorry, just saw this! As a workaround, you can use the Mac version. The Mac version does not use any ActiveX controls that's cause the graphics problems you face.
DeleteHello from Denmark.
ReplyDeleteI really like this power point and I like to use it.
DeleteYou may consider using an older version of Wheel of Fortune for PowerPoint in the meantime, since it uses a different puzzle board system that can handle foreign letters (but isn't as convenient to use). Download here: https://timtree.github.io/download/wheel-of-fortune-ppt/?ver=3.2
Wow this thing. The work.
ReplyDeleteWhere did you learned these things, though? I'm creating games on PowerPoint, but I find it too constraining if I don't explore the power of VBA (and heavy reliance on trigger buttons is... yeah)
Wow!!This is amazing! No way I could create this. I did want to say that I wish the bonus round had like a bonus wheel to see what the person would win if they solved the puzzle, similar to the the show.
ReplyDeleteAmazing! However, Why does the Buy Vowel and Transfer score not working? What to do?
ReplyDeleteHey Tim, first of all amazing job! Thank you very much!
ReplyDeleteLike some other people I have issues with the Buy a Vowel button and also the score transfer.
I'm using PP 2016, I've tried over and over but I can't figure how to make them works!
I'm having trouble reproducing the buy vowel/score transfer button problem, so I need some help.
Delete- What's your exact version of PowerPoint? (Go to File -> Account -> About PowerPoint)
- What version of Windows are you using? Have you installed the latest Windows updates for that version?
- Are you using 32-bit or 64-bit PowerPoint?
- Are hardware graphics acceleration and slide show hardware graphics acceleration enabled? (Check in PowerPoint options -> Advanced)
- Are macros enabled? Are all other functions working?
- What are your trust center settings for "ActiveX settings" and "Macro settings"? (Find in PowerPoint options -> Trust Center).
- Do the buy vowel/score transfer buttons work if you download the Mac version instead?
I really hope I can understand why many of you guys experience this bug.
Also, do you use an antivirus by any chance? I only use the built-in Windows defender, so maybe that's the cause?
Deletethanx for this gift
