Fortunately, Microsoft has handy guides to help you enable them.
- If you use PowerPoint for Windows, use this guide to learn how to enable macros.
- If you use PowerPoint for Mac, use this guide.
Macros won't run on PowerPoint Viewer, PowerPoint Online, or PowerPoint Mobile.
With all the security alerts, it's natural to feel cautious about macros. Fortunately, you don't have to trust me because all my VBA (the programming language for macros) is open source.
To view the VBA code:
PowerPoint 2010 or newer (Windows)
- Click the File tab -> Options
- In the Customize Ribbon section, check Developer.
- With the new Developer tab that appears, click Visual Basic.
PowerPoint 2011 for Mac
- Click the PowerPoint menu -> Preferences
- In the Ribbon section, check Developer under Customize.
- With the new Developer tab that appears, click Editor.
PowerPoint 2016 for Mac
- Click the Tools menu -> Macro -> Visual Basic Editor
Feel free to inspect to your heart's content!
If the PowerPoint game still has problems, and you know for sure macros are enabled, please leave a comment on the game's blog post. Make sure to describe what specifically doesn't work and your version of PowerPoint. If possible, video footage will help me troubleshoot more effectively. Thanks!
Hi Tim,
ReplyDeleteLove the game! Would it be possible to add to the number of contestants in the game? Ideally 5-6 rather then the current (3). Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Mike, I assume you're referring to Wheel of Fortune for PowerPoint. The ability to add more contestants is a requested feature I want to add, but it's very difficult to dynamically add contestant slots in PowerPoint. I hope to make contestant adding possible when I rewrite the entire project for the Web, but that's still a long ways away.
DeletePerhaps I can create separate PowerPoint files that have more contestant slots. I could do that when I have more free time.
Hi Tim,
DeleteIf you could provide a new power point that has 6 slots that be awesome! I am trying to use this for a Christmas party. We really love the game, any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks so much for all you do!
I'm currently brainstorming how I'll implement multiple contestant slots. Just to give a heads up, don't expect six contestant slots for these reasons.
Delete- The scores would get too squished/small to my liking.
- Adding more slots means more maintenance whenever I release future updates.
- Wheel of Fortune wouldn't be as fun with six slots due to how the game works. You'd likely have players who barely get a chance to spin the wheel, if at all.
Four slots would happen though, and I'm currently debating about five.
If you have six or more players, I highly recommend splitting them into teams. The actual game show does this (see couples games), and I'm confident your players will participate more/be more satisfied this way.
I hope you are able to understand.
